iwcVANCOUVER, JUNE 23/10 - In Japanese, zotohin means ‘gift’ while zowai means ‘giving a bribe’ and shuwai means ‘taking a bribe.’ If you Google the words Japan bribery corruption whaling you get 1,110,000 hits - and where there is smoke there is fire, says The Humane Society of Canada (HSC).

Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) PDF Print E-mail

The International Whaling Commission is the international regulatory body for whaling on the open seas. It was created following the signing of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling in Washington, DC in 1946. The first annual meeting of the IWC took place in London, UK in 1949. The main function of the IWC is to govern whaling practices by providing protection to species, designating whale sanctuaries, funding & promoting research on whales and determining quotas.

This year's Annual Meeting of the IWC is taking place in Agadir, Morocco June 2010

Animals Killed At Happy Rolph’s Bird Sanctuary: The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) Offers Reward PDF Print E-mail

rabbitJune 11, 2010, TORONTO – The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) is hoping that a $1,000 reward being offered through their Victims of Cruelty Program will help to bring to justice the person or persons responsible for killing several animals and stealing a baby goat from the Happy Rolph’s Bird Sanctuary in St Catharines. The reward is for information resulting in the conviction of those responsible for these killings and the theft.
