May 21, 2009 - Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products

Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel.

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian.

March 10, 2009 - Alaska Canine Cookies Recalls Certain Canine Cookies Because of Possible Salmonella Health Risk

Alaska Canine Cookies of Anchorage, Alaska is recalling Peanut Butter, Power Bone and Carrot Cake flavors of Canine Cookies because they were manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Alaska Canine Cookies were distributed in our 4 stores, (Anchorage, downtown Anchorage in the 5th Avenue Mall, Homer, and Wasilla) and on the website (www.alaskacaninecookies.com).

All three flavors (Peanut Butter, Power Bone, and Carrot Cake) come in a "Filled with Fun" bag (diagonally striped bag containing 3 large bones) and a "Woof Pack" (15 ounce bag labeled "Alaskan "Woof" Pack" with the Husk E. Dog on the front containing approximately 45 medium bones). Both the Filled with Fun and the Woof Pack, as well as any other Canine Cookie with a 1 ½ inch bone shaped sticker reading "Peanut Butter for Dogs, a natural treat for dogs" are included.

Additionally, the "Lollipup" (available only in the peanut butter flavor) comes in a 1 ounce bag with the Husk E. Dog on the front, and has the name "Lollipup" on the back and contains 1 large bone.

The "Polar Pooch Pouch" (offered only in the carrot cake flavor) is a 5 ounce bag with the Husk E Dog on the front, with "canine carrot cake" written across the front of the bag and contains 12 medium bones.

February 10, 2009 - American Nutrition, Inc. Announces a Voluntary Recall of Baked Dog Treats

As a result of the expanded recall by the Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) Blakely, Georgia facility, American Nutrition, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for certain baked dog treats containing peanut paste supplied by PCA. The Blakely PCA facility is the subject of an ongoing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation into potential Salmonella contamination of peanut paste and other peanut products.

Jan 23, 2009 - Salix Voluntarily Recalls Dog Treat Due to Possible Health Risk

Salix, a manufacturer of rawhide dog chew products, is voluntarily recalling its Healthy-hide Deli-wrap 3-Pack 5” Peanut Butter-Filled Rawhide dog treats that contain peanut butter made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste.

The product comes in a clear plastic bag with attached header card and the name Deli Wraps on the front. The package is a 3-count of 5” chew treats and the Universal Product Code is 0-91093-33354-0. All packages are marked with one of the following lot codes: A 08 208, A 08 212, A 08 232, A 08 234, A 08 263, A 08 264, A 08 268, A 08 275, A 08 276 or A 08 277. This code can be found on the backside of the header card.

PetSmart is voluntarily recalling seven of its Grreat Choice® Dog Biscuit products that contain peanut paste made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste made at its Blakely, Georgia facility.
